Township of Washington, NJ – December 9, 2009 – On Tuesday, December 1st, Oritani Bank and G.I. Go Fund co-hosted the first “Northern New Jersey Veterans Career and Transition Fair” at the Teaneck Armory in Teaneck, NJ. Sponsored by the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation, the fair provided 447 veterans with the opportunity to meet face to face with representatives of 50 public and private sector employers and 33 universities and colleges.
Local media organizations, including News 12, were on hand to cover the event. As part of an upcoming story on area veterans, the New Jersey Record interviewed Kevin J. Lynch, President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation and Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Bank. During 2009, the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation has granted over $100,000 to local organizations dedicated to helping returning service members. “With so many service members returning to our community this year, we feel it is important to reach out and provide financial assistance to the hardworking local organizations that help our veterans on a daily basis,” said Mr. Lynch.
The G.I. Go Fund is a nonprofit charitable organization headquartered in Newark, NJ that provides assistance to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan through every step of their transition back to civilian life while still providing for veterans of previous generations. The Career and Transition Fair is one part of their mission objectives. Mr. Lynch offered praise for the organization and its Executive Director, Jack Fanous, adding: “We are pleased to have been part of this worthy event. The transition period is an important and often difficult time for veterans, and even more so during an economic crisis. Such fairs offer a great way to facilitate the efforts of veterans seeking employment and educational opportunities through the G.I. Bill.”
