Township of Washington, NJ – July 21, 2010 – The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation has awarded $25,000 to the Bergen County Y, a Jewish Community Center, located in the Township of Washington, NJ. The grant will provide funding for the YJCC’s program for children with autism.
The Bergen County YJCC’s program for children on the autism spectrum complements school programs by offering further opportunities for social growth and development. The year-round program encourages learning through recreation in a safe, comfortable environment under the supervision of an NJ-certified teacher with a Master’s in Special Education. The children benefit from highly structured, individualized activities that develop independent skill behaviors and successful social interaction.
Kevin J. Lynch, President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation and Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Bank, recently visited Boost!, an after-school program at the YJCC where children with autism participate in fun activities alongside typically-developing peer volunteers. “The talented staff members of the YJCC offer innovative programming for children with autism and their families,” remarked Mr. Lynch. “We are pleased to be in a position to support their efforts to help young people in Bergen County reach their full potential.”
