Township of Washington, NJ – December 28, 2010 – The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $14,000 grant to Children’s Aid and Family Services of New Jersey in support of the Thomas R.S. Burgin Parents Fund, which provides assistance to college-bound teenagers aging out of the agency’s foster care system. While the students are eligible for subsidized tuition and room and board within the State of New Jersey, the Fund helps them with expenses for which they receive no assistance including clothing, toiletries and other living expenses as well as housing during vacation time.
“I am deeply grateful to the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation for its generous support of the Thomas R.S. Burgin Fund, which is truly a lifeline to the teenagers aging out of foster care and making the difficult transition into adulthood,” said Bob Jones, Ph.D., President & CEO of Children’s Aid and Family Services.
In addition to helping the young adults with their daily expenses, part of the grant is earmarked for the purchase of laptops for four students. “We are pleased to help young adults in our community pursuing a higher education,” said Kevin J. Lynch, President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation and Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Bank. “We hope others will join us in supporting this remarkable program which gives students without traditional family support the opportunity to focus on their studies.”
