Bank hosts food drive to replenish much needed necessities

Township of Washington, NJ (July 2, 2018) – The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation announced that it will be hosting its annual “Christmas in July” children’s food drive through August 4th. All 26 Oritani Bank branches are accepting donations for non-perishable food items, supermarket gift cards and monetary donations.  The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation will also match monetary donations made during the Food Drive.

Oritani Bank will provide shopping lists and specially designated bags in order to make donations easier. The items and money collected will be donated to the Center for Food Action (CFA), the Palisades Emergency Residence Corp. (PERC) and Saint Peter’s Haven, three of the leading providers of emergency food aid to children in northern New Jersey.

A partial list of the most needed items being requested are supermarket gift cards, canned tuna and chicken, hearty soups, canned corn and beans, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, tomato sauce and pasta, low-sugar cereals, boxed milk (such as Parmalat), instant potatoes, rice, 100% juice, baby formula and diapers. Lastly, pet food to be distributed to families with pets is also being accepted.

1 in 6 people in the United States face hunger. Approximately 17 million children in the United States are at risk of hunger and 27% of New Jersey’s children live in low-income neighborhoods. Many Americans are unaware of the vast amount of hunger in the U.S., but it is not too late to help. Donating locally can keep a child from going hungry and even better, save a life.
