Oritani Bank Foundation Assists Local Fire Victims

Posted on 10/7/2013 by

Township of Washington, NJ October 7, 2013 The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation today presented the North Hudson Community Action Foundation (NHCAF) with a $10,000 grant to assist the victims of a recent apartment fire in North Bergen. The devastating fire occurred on September 28th, destroying three connected apartment buildings that housed 60 families total, all of whom had to find alternate housing. As of October 7th, 22 families are still living in motels provided by the North Jersey Community Action Corp, which is supported by NHCAF. The Oritani grant will provide an extra 133 room nights for the families.

North Hudson Community Action does tremendous work on a day-to-day basis helping our struggling neighbors, said Kevin J. Lynch, President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation and Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Bank. When we heard about this fire and the dire need, we knew we had to act right away to help.

We are so grateful because the Federal funds to assist victims with alternate housing lasted only five days and these people were still in shock after five days, said Joan Quigley, President & CEO, North Hudson Community Action Corp. It was unthinkable that these people would be out on the street, so Oritani's grant was a gift from heaven.
