Township of Washington, NJ December 5, 2012 North Jersey Friendship House opened its new, state-of-the-art commercial training kitchen on October 2, 2012 a facility expansion made possible in part by a $100,000 grant from OritaniBank Charitable Foundation.

Friendship House, a 501(c)(3) charity, provides pre-vocational and vocational rehabilitation for people with mental illness and other disabilities. One of its successful programs is a catering business at the organizations Hackensack location where members of Friendship House learn kitchen related skills while preparing food for outside contracts. Currently they provide over 1,000 meals daily.

The organizations kitchen required an expansion this past year to offer enhanced training opportunities for members as well as to prepare an additional 1000 meals daily.  The cost of the project was over the estimated amount by $100,000, the cost of critically needed kitchen equipment. The $100,000 grant awarded by OritaniBank Charitable Foundation for the kitchen equipment, along with funds raised by the Friendship House board, assured that the project would be completed on time.

The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation grant enabled us to expand and enhance our training in all areas of food services, commented Jack Doyle, CEO of Friendship House. This will provide a significant increase in employment opportunities for our members in the Friendship House Culinary Food Service Training Program. We are so grateful for this support.
